The Barn
Sara's heart was beating wildly as she walked through the red barn's inviting doors. The various metal machinery shined in the moonlight; her fingers licking the glossy surface of a nearby contraption. As she walked towards the ladder, her feet were lighter than air. The rungs caressed Sara's hands as she ascended up to the hayloft. Smiling to herself, Sara picked up the cozy wool quilt and layed it down on the pile of hay. Humming, she positioned her self to be able to look out the loft's window. Instead of looking out the window, she closed her eyes, grinned, and breathed in the earthy smell of dirt and hay mixed together in a sweet concoction as blissful memories rushed into her head. She rolled over onto her stomach and looked at the quiet horses sleeping. It was midnight and the barn had never been more peaceful that it was tonight. The moonlight broke through the window and filtered down onto the backs of the sleeping steeds. Their coats shone bright, glimmering to match the twinkle in Sara's own eyes. Sara's eyes grew heavy and she sunk into the soft straw as her heart finally slowed into a rhythmic beat as she dozed off; the smile staying on her lips the rest of the night. The barn stood quiet, reverent: full of life.
