Reflections 2009

For Reflections this year, the theme was "Beauty is..." and so the girls set off to make stuff.

Today was the award ceremony.

This is Lily waiting for the assembly to start. (love the boy in the far left??LOL)

Here is Rebekah also waiting for the assembly to start. She is wearing her Indian feathers for today since the 5th graders did Colonial Day and could dress up if they wanted.

Here are my two winners!! In the 3D Art category in the Intermediate Division (3rd-5th grades) Rebekah won honorable mention and Lily won 1st place.
(See the cute, little 1st grader holding the "applause" sign? Well the poor dear had to pee and was too shy to say anything and within like 3 minutes of me taking this picture, the poor thing peed her pants, in front of the whole school.)

Here is Lily with her project. Her project is titled, "Beauty is recycling." I saw this project on Family Fun.com and knew she would LOVE doing it. She had a blast putting it together. I did have to help her with the glue gun though. Now her project goes on to District. I don't know if you can see it, but the little person has a halo. :-)

Here is Rebekah and her awesome rag quilt. Her project is titled, "Beauty is creating comfort." When she set to work on this blanket, she had her own pattern in mind. I will have to take another picture of it to show you. It is 6 feet tall and almost 4 feet wide. She was excited to win an honorable mention and now gets to sleep with it. She can't wait for me to wash it so the fringes will fray more.

I am so proud of my girls desire to enter into Reflections every year. Their confidence skyrockets when they get to create. Good thing they create all year round.

Superwoman's Sunday Adventures

I have decided that without Facebook, I truly am Superwoman. :-) This morning I woke up at 8 and could not go back to sleep, as much as I really wanted to. I decided to take advantage of no one else being up and enjoyed a long, hot shower. I blow dried and styled my hair (if anyone knows me, that alone is proof of Superwoman status), did my make-up, got dressed for church, put on the homemade apron I made for Bill, tidied up the kitchen, put the clothes in the dryer, chopped some vegetables for the crock-pot meal, seared the roast, put everything in the crock-pot, fixed Rebekah's dress with some nicely done stitches, hard boiled a dozen eggs for snacks later in the day, made sure Nate and Lily took their showers, made sure the kids were in their Sunday best, did buns on the side of the girls' hair, cut and hot glued flowers to some hair things, put the cute new hair things in the girls' hair, shooed the kids out the door with their scriptures, and we managed to get to church a few minutes early (our ward starts at 11).
The whole morning, Facebook beckoned me, taunting me with its many applications, quizzes, and statue updates. I kept telling myself that I would check my Facebook when I had a spare minute. That spare minute eluded me as I kept finding more things I wanted to do, which drowned out the constant Facebook nagging.
I feel incredibly accomplished. I hope more of my mornings go like that.

Oh, and after church, I played a game of Spaceopoly (aka: SolarQuest) with the kids. I won. :-) After we broke our fast, we watched "Back to the Future Part II" and then Bill and I took a nap. When we woke up, the kids asked us to play the new Monopoly as a family. Bill and Lily kicked all of our butts. While we were playing, our good friends, the Zieglers, dropped by and we visited for a while. Little Bell had her dolls and "cell phone" and was so happy. Jayson and Kenna were just as happy and cute. We can't wait to hang out with them tomorrow.
After they left, we resumed our game where Rebekah was the first one bankrupt, then me (after some "unwise" trading with Lily - call me a sucker, but I couldn't let her lose!), then Justin, then Nathan, and it was down to Bill versus Lily. Lily had most of the property and lots of hotels, and Bill had over 40 millions bucks. We called it a draw or we would have been playing ALL night.

We closed the evening with some gourmet Dave and Thomas popcorn while watching a couple episodes of "Charmed." Now it is quiet time. Everyone else in the house is tucked in bed and sleeping, while me, Supewoman, is blogging. Ahhh, it doesn't get much better than this!
